Niki Follina, MBACP (Snr Accred), highly experienced Counsellor and Supervisor - Person-Centred Therapists

Registered and Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, Supervisor (Face-to-face/VSee) in
  • England - South West

With over 20 years of experience in the field, I offer counselling and supervision face-to-face and via video call or telephone. As a BACP Registered and Senior Accredited Practitioner, I have extensive experience of counselling adults, young people, couples and groups.  This was gained through many years working in the NHS and local authority, in private practice and through my work in the third sector with organizations like Mind, Age UK, Shetland Bereavement Support Service and Women's Aid. Clients present for a range of reasons, including relationships, loss, abuse, low mood, stress and anxiety, isolation. I work with individuals and couples presenting with a wide range of difficulties, and specialize in relationship and abuse issues.  I am also experienced in brief work and listen to your specific expectations and need with a view to working at your own pace within a non-judgemental and trusting relationship.   I aim to offer you a safe space to tell your story and be heard, and to reflect and work out a way forward for you in your life, freeing you to work towards reaching your personal potential.

I qualified as a Counselling Supervisor in 2009 (through WPF), and bring extensive experience of offering supervision (and supervision of supervision) to both trainee and qualified Counsellors/Psychotherapists, including those working towards BACP Accreditation and Senior Accreditation. I hope to meet you at your stage of development as a Counsellor and offer both support and challenge to facilitate you in becoming the best therapist you can be.

Special areas
SUPERVISION AND COUNSELLING - As well as offering one-to-one counselling, I am keen to support both trainee and qualified practitioners through supervision. I specialize in long-term work, in particular with issues around relationships and abuse.  I am also experienced in brief work and offer supervision to a number of practitioners working with EAP's.  Throughout my career I have been a passionate advocate of the person-centred approach and witnessed the potency of the core conditions as a Client, Counsellor and Supervisor. I recognize the importance of working with the whole person in a respectful and non-judgemental way, and seek to play my part in helping maintain appropriate recognition of the Person-Centred approach.

MINDULNESS MEDITATION I am practised and experienced in traditional meditation and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, and advocate the benefits of these practices for practitioners and clients alike.

REWILDING/ECOTHERAPY I have a keen interest in the healing power of nature, and the current movement towards working in the outdoors.

With experience of living and working in Shetland and on the Isle of Wight, I have a special interest in island communities. I am able to work in both English and French, having lived in France for many years.
