The Challenges of the Teenage Client - what could they be thinking? –
January 24, 2020 - January 24, 2020
London | £70 including lunch and refreshments
Friday, 24th January 2020 – with Sarah Mills
The teenage years are often difficult ones and counselling teenagers has it's own particular challenges. Therapists often question whether what they are doing in the counselling room is of any value to their teenage client as the strategies we would use with our adult clients often seem to let us down. Our training encourages us to strive for therapeutic alliance and relational depth which can be elusive with this age group, and we can be left wondering what on earth they are thinking and how do I help?
During the workshop we will:
• review adolescent brain development
• reflect on our own inner teenager and the way they experienced the world
• consider what teenagers want in the counselling room and the concept of 'tenuous contact'
• creative interventions to develop rapport and therapeutic alliance
The day is suitable for anyone working, or wanting to work, with teenage clients. It would be helpful to bring a photo of yourself as a teenager for the reflective exercise.
